WGA Results for September 12th, 2012

What a beautiful day we had here for the ladies with sunny skies and cool morning temperatures with the afternoon giving way to some warm comforting sunshine.  We had a bit of a small group of ladies today for our Low Gross Low Net game.

The 9 hole ladies had 3 competitors with the same two ladies on the top of the leaderboard as  last week.  Cathy Roofe taking the prize for low net and Tina Maisano claiming victory in the net division.  Great work ladies you are both a picture of consistency.

The 18 holers totaled 11 with Karen Finegold adding her name to the list at the last minute.  It turned out to be a good decision for her because she ended up tied for the low spot on the net side of todays game with a score of net 75.  Here co-champion in the net was sharpshooting Lois Lee who also carded a nice round of net 75.  Nice work ladies!  Then the gross side of things sees us crowning that familiar name who always seems to find her way into the winners circle.  Mrs. Norma Hyland with a score of 89 claimed the low gross honors with Tricia Knight following close behind in second at 94.  Way to go ladies!

There were no chip in's today so next week will be a carry over.

The only player to make a birdie today and add here name to the tree was Lynn Dunn.  She made a nice birdie on the 2nd hole.  Way to go Lynn!

WGA Results for September 5th 2012

Here we are into the month of September.  Where has the year gone?  Our format today was the Hate'Em game.  The ladies would pick which two holes that they just hate and throw them out.  That format is destined to lower any one's score for sure.

The 9 hole ladies today had Cathy Roofe taking the first place in the Gross division with a score of 43.   Tina Maisano was the low net player today with a very nice 31 net.  Both ladies padded their sweeps account with an additional $6 each.  Great work ladies!

The 18 hole division had some stellar play with the ladies happily tossing out their two most hated holes.  For some reason everyone picked the 4th hole today.  I wonder why that is?  In the Gross division we had Norma Hyland taking the first place spot with a score of  70.  She collected $7 in sweeps credit for her efforts.  Susan Courneya was in the 2nd place spot by firing a 76 to win $4 in sweeps.  Both of these ladies finished in the money despite scoring par on one of the holes that they picked.  Nice going girls!

The Net Division saw Cindy Boals finding the winners circle with some excellent play and good choice of holes that resulted in 59 for her score and first place money of $7.  Close on her heals only one shot behind was Lois Lee with a net score of 60 to win $4 for her sweeps account.  Well done ladies!

Norma Hyland had the only chip in today on the 5th hole to take the big 3 week carry over chip in pot of $19.  NICE!!!

We had two birdies today with Susan Courneya on the 3rd hole and Wanda Little on the 12th hole.

Next weeks format for the WGA Play day will be Low Gross/Low Net with a 9:00 am shotgun start.

2012 Ladies Match Play Champions crowned!

It was a battle from the start for our worth competitors of this years Ladies Team Match Play Championship.  We had Karen Finegold and Lois Lee on one side who advanced to the finals by overcoming some excellent players like Stokes & Chalas in the first round then going to 20 holes against Little and Butcher to get into the finals.  On the other side we had Dot Kennihan & Becky Deaton who dispatched Points & Lipomi in round one then tackled the always tough Hyland and Tate to reach the finals on their side of the bracket.

Today's Match started out with excellent tee shots from all competitors but Becky Deaton's par on the first drew first blood to see Kennihan & Deaton going up one after the first.  Karen Finegold fired right back with a par on the difficult 2nd hole to even the match.  Then it was Dot's turn to contribute with winning two holes in a row for her squad with bogey's on the difficult 3rd and 4th holes.  Becky helped out on the 5th hole with a nice net par to take the third hole in a row and put her team up 3 after 5 holes.  With a bit of back and forth for the remaining holes on the front nine we had team Kenihan & Deaton up 2 after the first 9 holes.  After halving the tenth hole team Finegold & Lee


brought the match back to even with victories on 11 & 12.  That is where it became a dead heat while the two opponents halved the next 4 holes.  Lois Lee came up big on the 17th with a nice par net birdie to take a one up lead into the 18th hole of this exciting match.  With a bogey on the last hole that was good enough to tie team Kennihan & Deaton and earn the Championship for Karen Finegold & Lois Lee.  Great work ladies.  I would like to congradulate both teams on there excellent play!

WGA Results for 8-22-12

Well it is about time for the Pro to come off of his summer sabbatical and get to work don't you think.  I certainly agree with you on that one so here we go with today's WGA Play Day results for Wednesday, August 22nd. 

The ladies had a bit of a tough day today based on some of the scores turned in to the Pro Shop.  But there was our very own Norma Hyland at the top of the list again in the Gross category with a score of 85 to claim her tidy sum of $8 in pro shop credit for all of her hard work.  Diane Tate survived a scorecard playoff with Tricia Knight to claim second place with a score of 92.  In the net division we had a tie at the top with Tricia Knight and Susie Points sharing the top spot with a score of net 75.  Congratulations to you ladies! 

The 9-hole division had 4 ladies come to play with Judy Vanica winning the gross division with a score of 61 and Cathy Roofe, who was reluctant to turn her card was the net winner at 47.  Great work ladies you will each see $4 added to your sweeps credit accounts for all of your hard work.

No chip in's again this week so next week we will have a 3 week carryover!  Big money ladies so make sure you show up next time.

Birdies were had by both Tricia Knight and Dot Kennihan on hole #2.  Nice!

Thanks for playing ladies.  Next week we have an exchange day at #7.  We will take the first 12 ladies signed up.  It will be a 9 am shotgun start and the cost is $35pp that includes lunch.  Sign up sheet is in the pro shop so hurry up and sign up.

WGA Play Day Results June 20th, 2012

It was a steamy one out there today for the ladies on their weekly play day.  The format today was Low Gross & Low Net for both the 9 hole division and the 18 hole ladies.

The 9 hole gross champion of the day was Judy Vanica.  She scored a 59 to take home the big first place prize.  The net winner was Beverley Logan scoring a nice net 44 to claim first place honors there.  Great work ladies!  Keep up the good work.

The 18 hole division had our steady eddie Norma Hyland in the winners circle again for the Gross division.  She carded an excellent 79 with a nice birdie chip in on the 13th to help things along.  Great work Norma!

The Net winner in the 18 hole division was a tie between Betty Lynch and Lois Lee.  They both posted a one over par 73 net to pocket that big first place prize money.  Great work ladies!

The Chip in pot was split 3 ways between Becky Deaton #7, Betty Lynch #8 and Norma Hyland #13.  They each collected $2.33 each.

The birdie tree saw some new additions from Becky Deaton #7 and Norma Hyland #13.  That tree is getting a little crowded.  Nice work Ladies!

Next weeks format is the President's Cup with shotgun start at 8:30am.  See you there!

WGA Play Day Results for June 13th 2012

What a turnout we had for our WGA Play Day today to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills!  I am so proud of my ladies for raising nearly $800 for such a worthy cause.  Great work to all of you who played and to those of you who donated.

We had a couple of closest to the hole prizes so generously donated to the cause by our most dedicated, overworked, underpaid and humble Golf Professional.  On hole # 2 we had Lynn "Ace" Dunn take the prize and hole #12 had Dot Kennihan hitting it closer than everyone else.  Great work ladies!

The Net Champions for today were Dot Kennihan, Stephanie Stokes, Lorraine Schwerin and Bev Harper.  The fired a net score of 61.6 to win by 9 tenths of a shot over their closest competitor.

The Gross Champion today was Team Gough.  Cathy brought in some ringers from Governors Club and took home the bacon for 1st place.  Do you think Gary will be frying it up in a pan?  The team comprised of Cathy Gough, Sally Manaugh, Karyn Wilson and Sandra Bazley cashed the first place check of $6 each in Pro Shop Credit.  Great work Ladies!

We had two ladies split the chip in pot this week which was a carry over from last week.  Norma Hyland chipped in on the 13th hole and Maureen Buckley holed one out on the 17th.  They each received $9.25 each so they will be playing with house money for the next few months.  Nice job.

Thanks to everyone for coming out and showing your support for such a worthy cause.  You ladies are great!

WGA Play Day Results for June 6th, 2012

A bit of an ugly start to the day for our ladies first play day of June.  Who would have thought that my ladies would believe it to be to cold to play golf in June.  Well it turned out it was a bit cold for a few of the fourteen ladies who started golf this morning.  The format was Presidents Cup.  We had 7 ladies tough it out and finish the round today.  The top dog on the gross side was Sharon Fields with a nice round of 80.  Sharon fired a 39 on the front nine to help her claim the first place check.  The Net champion was Lorraine Schwerin with a net score of 70.  Her two playing partners bowed out so she waited and played with the group behind her.  Her patience paid off with a nice tidy sum of $9 in shop credit for her first place victory.

We had Tina Maisano play for the 9 holers and being that she was the only one who played dominated the competition.  No one was even close to her as she finished in about 1 hour.  That may be a new course record for 9 holes.  Great work Tina!  You get my vote for most dedicated 9 holer.

The birdie tree got some action today as we had 4 birdies.  Diane Tate had two birdies on #9 and #12 along with Lois Lee & Sharon Fields both having a tweeter on the 9th.  Nice work ladies!
