WGA Play Day Results 4-16-14

The WGA had 13 Ladies show up to play today on a very chilly April morning. The game was low putts and it was a tight competition. There was a tie for 1st Place with Diane Tate and Pat Blank finishing with only 33 putt. 2nd Place was also a tie with Susie Points and Lynn Dunn finishing with 35 putts. Outstanding job considering the temperature.

Paula McEachen and Cleta Mitchell both carded birdies on hole number 12. No one had a chip-in so that money will be carried over to next week.

Hopefully the weather will be back to normal for next weeks game which is "Get Acquainted". Each player selects a partner with whom they have never played. Format is best ball net of the two player team. Full handicap and 9 hole players are encouraged to play with 18 hole ladies.

WGA Results for April 9th 2014

Great day for the ladies today with a little bit of a nip in the air this morning.  The ladies showed up with 13 of the 18 hole group and 6 for the 9 hole group.  The ladies were battling it out for the top spot on Presidents Cup day.

The gross winner today was Lorraine Chalas who had a bit of difficulty with the 4th hole but still managed to squeak out the W by one shot over the always tough competitor Norma Hyland.

The net champ was a tie between Maureen Buckley and Pat Blank who both fired a net 70 to take home some cabbage.  Great work ladies!

The 9 hole group had Maggie Dougherty coming in first for gross with a 57.  Well done for sure!
The net was a split just like the 18 holers.  Paula McEachen and Tina Maisano were locked up at that top spot with a net 41.  Nice Job for sure!

The birdie leader today was Lorraine Chalas as she birdied #8 and #16.

Then we had our big cash winner of the day Mrs. Phyllis Hudson who chipped in on the 7th hole to take home all the cash from the chip in jar.  Congratulations to Phyllis!

Thanks for playing ladies.  We hope to see you next week when we will have the format Low Putts.  Play for the 18 hole ladies will be at 10:00 am and the 9 hole ladies will begin at 9:00 am

2014 Ladies Member/Member Championship Results

The first major of the year for the ladies is in the books with a new champion at the helm.  We finally had some great weather for a change.  It has been a long and cool winter for sure.  This year's format was unchanged from years past with the first day being a best ball competition and the final day being a captains choice.  We had 9 teams competing for the crystal and an invite to the coveted Champions Dinner.

Day one had some stiff competition but none dominated the field like the team of Becky Deaton and Tricia Knight.  They were on fire for day one with a stellar net 56 which was seven shots better than their closest competitors Maureen Buckley and Pat Blank.  Word around the water cooler is that Becky Deaton had a great day on the links with a net 66 on her own ball.  She must have had some help from current club Champion Tricia Knight though to reach that awe inspiring score of sixteen under par!

Day two saw some exceptional play coming from the team of Ann Filo and Betty Lynch as well as Diane Tate and Norma Hyland.  They were the only two teams to score under par for the final day of play.  It turned out not to be enough to overcome the substantial lead that team Deaton/Knight had on the field and they were crowned the 2014 Ladies Member/Member Champions with a winning score of  132.1 besting the second place team of Hyland/Tate by 3.1 shots.  When you see Tricia Knight and Becky Deaton roaming the halls of National stop and say congratulations for a hard fought and well deserved victory in this years Member/Member Championship!

Special Event Winners:
We had four closest to the hole winners and a chip in pot for the two days of competition.  The closest to the hole winners were Norma Hyland on hole #2 and #12, Stephanie Stokes on hole # 9 and Lisa Butcher on hole #17.  The chip in pot was split between Wanda Little and Ann Filo.  Congratulations to all of our winners and thank you for playing in this years Ladies Member/Member Championship.

WGA Opening Day a chilly event!

2014 opening day for the WGA was a chilly start to this year which should bring some interesting changes to our little slice of  heaven.  Our ladies came out for a breakfast meeting to start and then play golf in the cold and wet weather.  We had a few more eating breakfast than we did playing golf but there were 12 brave souls that changed our 18 hole captains choice format to a 9 hole event.  The champion golfers of the day were the team of Lorraine Chalas, Cindy Boals & Phyllis Hudson.  They managed to fight their way through the rough weather and post a very respectable score of 37 which translated to a 31.95 net besting the second place team by nearly two shots.  No chip ins today so that moola will carry over till next week.  The format for next weeks play day will be T & F which will start at 10:00am.  I hope to see you next week even though the weather forecast is calling for another chili day with a forecasted high temp of 47 but you know as well as I do that the weather man has made mistakes in the past.  Thanks to all the ladies for coming out to play.

Best,

Dave
